With temperatures hovering at 110 degrees in Wichita on Monday — and no relief in sight within the immediate forecast — I thought folks might enjoy this video of loons in the Bering Strait from Alaska to far eastern Siberia taking a dip in waters that I can only imagine were certainly colder than any right now in Kansas.
Great photos and music in a video, even if it is about West Texas. Just incredible to watch.
I grew up in a house with a piano. My grandparents had a piano. All my brothers and sisters learned to play. We learned how to count music. Our dad would sometimes oversee the musical practice sessions. He’d chew on a toothpick and tap his fingers to the rhythm the song was supposed to reflect. And then, sometimes, the same fingers that had spent the day fixing and repairing tired farm equipment, would play beautiful melodies, waltzes and hymns and folksongs.

Temperature was 106 degrees at 7:30 p.m. July 25,2012.

Prayers for Rain.
A great day to be on the river if you like hot weather with no breeze. Car going up the ramp, truck and boat going down the ramp. Guess who got into the water first!
This is from the latest issue of the Kansas History Journal. A pretty fascinating account of Kansas farmers and their use of chemicals in farming.
